The Father's Day Gift That Gets Eaten Instead of Stored

The trouble with Father's Day is that the obvious gifts are things, and most fathers have reached the point where another thing is a burden rather than a present.

Jerky solves that by disappearing. It gets eaten, it gets shared, and nobody has to find a place for it, which is more than can be said for a grilling tool that duplicates one already in the drawer.

Bison, the One to Send Out of State

Bison is what people mean when they say they want something from Montana. It is leaner than beef, higher in protein, and it carries a flavor that is richer and a little sweeter without being gamey.

Ours is 100% North American bison, marinated for five days and smoked in our own plant in Belgrade, with no nitrites, no MSG, and no artificial preservatives.

The naming confuses people, so worth settling it. Buffalo and bison are the same animal. American bison is the correct term, buffalo is what everyone says, and on a package in Montana they mean the same thing.

Elk, for the One Who Has Had Everything

Elk is the harder one to find and the more interesting one to give. It runs leaner still, tastes cleaner and more distinctly of itself than beef, and it surprises people who expect something strong.

For a father who hunts, this is a familiar flavor done properly. For one who does not, it is the most novel thing on this page.

Beef, Because It Is What He Will Eat

There is a version of this gift where you get clever and he quietly wishes you had not. Beef jerky is our best seller for a reason, and buying the thing somebody likes is not a failure of imagination.

Whole muscle beef rounds, sliced thin, marinated five days, then smoked. It is the one we make most of because it is the one that goes fastest.

The Move Is All Three

The best version of this gift is one of each, which turns a snack into a comparison. He eats them side by side, forms an opinion, and tells you about it, which is the part that lands.

At these prices all three together costs less than a shirt he will not wear.

Why Ours Tastes Different

Two things. The marinade runs five days rather than overnight, so the flavor goes through the meat instead of sitting on the surface. And we use a smokehouse rather than a dehydrator, which is a real difference in both texture and taste.

Everything is made in our USDA plant in Belgrade by people who live in this valley.

Shipping in Time

Everything here is shelf stable and travels without special handling, so a package sent early in the week generally lands before the weekend. If you have left it late, tell us and we will tell you whether it will make it.
